ABOUT

SPINE SURGERY

Spine surgery is a medical procedure that is performed to treat the chronic back or neck pain that the patient is suffering. This procedure involves the treatment or removal of herniated discs, treating vertebral fractures, spinal stenosis, and bone spurs.

Common Spinal Problems:

  • Lower Back Pain
  • Whiplash (Neck strain/pain)
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Slipped disc
  • Spinal fractures
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal deformities- Scoliosis and Kyphosis
  • Spinal Infections
  • Spinal Tumours- malignant and benign.

Our orthopedic spine unit has expertise in doing the rarest of the rare cases as well as the cases which are complex and difficult.

Following are the types of procedures for Spine Surgery:

ENDOSCOPY AND RELATED PROCEDURES

We do Percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic spine surgery (PELD), Disc biography, Selective Nerve Root Block (SNRB), Cervical discography, and Foraminoplasty

  • PELD: This is the latest advancement in disc surgery in the lumber area region. This procedure is done under local paranaesthesia with the least damage to surrounding structures. Ony one-day admission is needed.
  • Discography: in this procedure radiocontrast is injected into the intervertebral disc space under fluoroscopic guidance to evaluate annular competence and also to help us to correlate the patient’s symptoms with the disc pathology and decision-making surgery. SNRB is a specialized procedure that tries to correlate the patient’s pain to a particular nerve root.
  • Foraminoplasty is a very recent advancement in the field of endoscopic spine surgery by which we can open up the intervertebral foramina and relieve the compressive effect on the nerve root by disc, ligament, or, abnormal bone.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERIES

Microlumbar discectomy(MLD), Trans  Foraminal Lumbar Inter Body Fusion (TLIF), Vertebroplasty, Trans Pedicular Biopsy, Percutaneous Pedicle screw Fixation.

  • MLD is a procedure in which a stenosed spinal canal is decompressed under microscopic visualization to prove the accuracy and to minimize to surrounding structures.
  • TLIF: A procedure highly successful in chronic low back ache due to spinal instability; the unstable spine is fused using allograft & spinal instrumentation in vertebroplasty, we inject bone cement into the vertebral body percutaneously to stabilize an unstable vertebra and to alleviate vertebral pain due to tumor or osteoporotic fracture.

SPINAL DEFORMITY CORRECTION

Include Scoliosis Correction, High-grade Spondylolisthesis Correction, fusion, and Kyphosis surgery. We do all types of scoliosis work, from congenital to adult. We have experience in correcting scoliosis as large as 100 degrees, and by both anterior and posterior surgery.

OTHER PROCEDURES

We regularly do spine Fracture reduction and fixation, Cervical Corpectomy, Surgeries for advanced spinal Tuberculosis, Surgeries for spinal tumors, and Cranio-cervical junction surgeries.

PERCUTANEOUS ENDOSCOPIC SPINE SURGERY

It is a very recent advance in the field of spine surgery which is being done under local anesthesia in awake and alert patients. It is very safe, injures no normal structures, and is almost scarless, the patient can walk very early after the surgery and he can go home even on the same day of surgery. We have a very good experience with the procedure and we have achieved very good results.
