Menopauseis a common condition for all women experience as they age. The word “menopause” can be describe like if any of the changes a woman go through either just before menstruating or after stops menstruating, marking the ending of her reproductive period.

CAUSES:

A woman will born with a limited number ofeggs, which were stored in the ovaries. The ovaries also make hormoneslike estrogen& progesterone, which can control the menstruation & ovulation. Menopause can happens when the ovaries will no longer releases an egg monthly & then menstruationstops.

Menopause is considered as usual part of aging and it happens after the age of 40. But in some women they will go through menopause early, either as a result of some surgery, likehysterectomy, or damage to ovaries, like fromchemotherapy. Menopause that happens before 40, regardless of the cause, is known as premature menopause.

Natural menopause is not brought on by any kind of medical or surgical treatment. The process isgradual & has 3 stages:

  • Perimenopause: This generally begins several years before the menopause, when the ovaries slowly make lessestrogen. Perimenopause lasts up till menopause, the time when ovaries will stop releasing the eggs. In the last 1 – 2 years of perimenopause, the drop in the estrogen quickens. At this stage, many of the women will havemenopause symptoms.
  • Menopause:This is the point when it is been a year when a woman has her last menstrual period. At this stage, the ovaries will stop releasing eggs & makes most of their estrogen.
  • Postmenopause:These are the years after the menopause. During this stage, menopausal symptoms likehot flashesease for most of the women. But health risks relates to the loss of estrogen levels rise as the woman ages.

SYMPTOMS:

Most of the women who are approaching to menopause will havehot flashes, a rapid feeling of warmth which spreads over the upper body, usually with the blushing & somesweating. The severity ofthe hot flashesvaries from mild in most women to severe in other women.

Other common symptoms around the time of menopause phase include:

  • Irregular or skipped periods
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Insomnia
  • Bladder control problems
  • Racingheart
  • Joint and muscle aches and pains
  • Changes in libido(sex drive)

Not all women will get all of these symptoms.

DIAGNOSIS:

Tests usually are not needed to diagnose the menopause phase. But under certain circumstances, doctor will recommend to take blood tests to check your level of:

  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) & estrogen (estradiol), because if FSH levels increase & estradiol levels decrease as menopause occurs.
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), because an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) may cause symptoms that will be relative to those of menopause.

TREATMENT:

Menopause requires no specific medical treatment. Instead, treatments will be focus on relieving your signs & symptoms & preventing or managing the chronic conditions which may occur with the aging.
